Goergen expressed concern about the handling and trading of animals on online platforms or in newspapers and queried the number of checks carried out in these domains.

According to the Minister, the veterinary inspection is responsible for these checks. He said that it was impossible to scrutinise every individual advert, and the appropriate authorities were in the process of diminishing this sort of activity.

The regulation of foreign breeders selling pets on Luxembourg platforms is a complicated issue, according to the Minister. He explained that in this context, an amendment of the law at European level would be necessary.

Since the new Animal Protection Act came into force, eleven cat breeders, nine dog breeders, two pet shops and eight animal boarding houses have been licensed to operate in the Grand Duchy.
