Oberweis was first asked about the pending announcements of new restrictions after the meeting of the state council on Monday. She noted that the most recent Covid laws, scheduled to last until 18 December, may have been too optimistic in their duration, given that we know infections are rising in winter.
The Left is critical of the CovidCheck system since it gives us a wrong impression of safety. Even vaccinated people are still able to contract Covid-19 and transmit the virus further to other people, which is why The Left argues in favour of a 3G Plus system, meaning that everyone would have to get tested: “It is the elephant in the room.”
The politician also explained that her party would have preferred to maintain free testing. Oberweis noted that exercising pressure on the unvaccinated is not the right path forward, which is why The Left does not support a vaccine mandate.
Oberweis conveyed her belief that the government was not rigorous enough in its efforts to convince people of the vaccine. She further questioned whether it is wise to wait six months for booster jabs, given that studies have shown that immunity levels decrease much earlier.
When asked about safety in the Gare district, the MP explained that the situation has not deteriorated as much as some people say. Although there is certainly room for improvement, Oberweis concluded that the use of private security firms is not the right way.
