Some 20.2% of Luxembourg residents reported experiencing problems with noise either from their neighbours or the street. This places us a few rungs above the EU average (17.3%), and in 5th place overall.

Worse yet is the situation in Malta (28.3%), the Netherlands (26.6%), Germany (26.1%), and Portugal (22.7%). Far luckier in that regards are the residents of Croatia, Estonia, and Ireland (all 8.2%), Bulgaria (8.9%), Hungary (9.7%), and Slovakia (10.5%).

Luxembourg's noise problem also appears to be worsening; in 2010, only 16.7% of residents reported problems with external noise in their homes. It has increased quite steadily since, though a peak of 21.6% was recorded in 2017. Luxembourg was below the EU average in 2011 (there is no published average for 2010), 2012 and 2013, and since then has experienced more noise issues than the Union average.
