The activity was temporarily prohibited under Covid restrictions, a ban which has now been lifted again.

Not too long ago, Luxembourgish hunting associations were displeased when one of the Covid laws classified their activities as recreational. Starting 10 January, groups of up to ten people will now be allowed to hunt together again. Masks need to be worn and participants need to respect a 2-metre safety distance. Traditional hunting groups remain prohibited. This set of rules is still in place until the end of the month.

Minister for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development Carole Dieschbourg (The Greens) has meanwhile responded to a parliamentary enquiry regarding the regulated shooting rate. She states her belief that even though restrictions might be in place, the fixed rate, which spans over three years, should be met without an issue. However, Dieschbourg also acknowledged that wildlife damage caused by boars has significantly increased over recent years.

Her response further conveys that over the past two years, close to 500 dead animals were found near roads. An in-depth statistical analysis of the situation has not yet been done, but Dieschbourg argued that some of these accidents were due to animals being stressed and disoriented by organised hunts.
