The start was more of a slow burn than what some might be used to. When the "Fun um Glacis" event was officially opened on Saturday morning, it was relatively quiet. The first visitors arrived around noon. Every day, this alternative funfair also closes earlier than the traditional Schueberfouer, at 11 pm.

However, both carnival workers and restaurant owners are satisfied with the first weekend. They are relieved and happy. The Glacis was never crowded, but there were always visitors. "It worked out well", explains the president of the Federation of Fairground Traders, Charel Hary, stating that they always had work to do. It was a deliberate decision to leave enough space. The visitors were not to be crowded; everything was calculated that way. It worked out very well, Hary explained, adding that the carnival workers are aware that this is not the Schueberfouer and that they will not be able to make the same turnover, but they are still sincerely happy with what has been set up.

Nevertheless, the first day was a bit lacklustre. The traditional aspects were missing, like the "Hämmelsmarsch" and the marching band. However that was precisely because "Fun um Glacis" is not the Schueberfouer. For this reason, it was decided not to incorporate these traditional activities this year. This did not stop visitors from coming in large numbers on Saturday evening, to enjoy the special atmosphere created by all the attraction lights.

Visitors generally respect the rules. The restaurant owners had feared at the beginning that many customers would not come because of the CovidCheck regulations. However, the separate area with the food and drink stands was a success, according to Alexandre Dotremont, owner of King Kong. They started at noon on Saturday and their terrace was full until 11pm – same on Sunday. Dotremont is pleased to have had a decent amount of food orders both at lunchtime and in the evening.

There were numerous visitors, despite the fact that the weather was not so good on Sunday. Weekdays are always quieter. If it could continue like this next weekend, "we would be very happy", Charel Hary adds.
