
The bridge crosses the Domaniale des Trois Glands forest, and due to precious nature of the area the bridge will meander through the treetops several metres above the ground. A minimum number of trees are said to be cut to make way for the project.
Its futuristic, curved design incorporates steel and glass, with the deck covered in light concrete. It is the first bridge of this kind in Luxembourg. The project will cost 4 million euros and was designed by architects Marc Mimram, Fabeck Architectes and Bureau Greisch.
During the project's presentation on Wednesday, Minister for Mobility François Bausch underlined that the structure facilitates the access to Mudam and the park and is a a smart way to make more public space available to pedestrians and cyclists, boosting the country's soft mobility.
Minister for Culture Sam Tanson welcomed the inclusion of surrounding cultural institutions in the project and expressed confidence that the architectural work will further strengthen the already abundant collaborations between cultural partners on the site. "The footbridge is a shortcut to culture. It will also contribute to improving access to cultural offerings, a cornerstone of cultural policy and a priority for this ministry."
