Solemn start to the Octave period at the Cathedral this Saturday. In the coming 16 days, thousands of believers from across the country and from beyond the borders will make a pilgrimage to the statue of Virgin Mary at the Cathedral in Luxembourg City.

In his sermon, archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich emphasised the plight of refugees in Lesbos, where, currently, some 7,500 women, men and children live under the most challenging of conditions. The archbishop called on believers to make time to take a stand for other people.

The event took on a more festive tone, as Jean-Claude Hollerich's predecessor, archbishop Fernand Frank, was celebrated to mark the occasion of his birthday, as he had jut turned 85 on Monday.
