Within the letter, the Ministry explained the Pirate Party had exceeded the state endowment threshold of 75% in 2018, due to a donation made by a party member and candidate of €30,700. As the sum was a donation and not a receipt, it could not be taken into account for the state endowment. The Pirate Party therefore reached 87% in 2018, exceeding the threshold by 12%.
The Ministry said the Party had therefore received €19,341.02 in excess and requested the sum be reimbursed to the State Treasury.
On Wednesday afternoon, in response to the letter, the Pirate Party said they interpreted the law differently and would allow justice to decide the outcome.
