Police patrols were kept busy overnight from Friday to Saturday responding to numerous incidents across Luxembourg, with a particular focus on disputes and noise complaints.

A total of around 35 such cases were reported between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Officers were despatched multiple times to de-escalate tensions. According to police, “in most cases, the situation had already calmed down by the time officers arrived or was able to be resolved on the spot by them.”

However, a few incidents escalated further. Just before 5am, a fight broke out on Rue de Bouillon in the Hollerich neighbourhood of Luxembourg City. Upon arrival, officers located three of those involved. Preliminary findings suggest the physical altercation was preceded by a verbal dispute between the three individuals and three others, who had already fled the scene. Authorities have opened an investigation to establish the precise sequence of events.

In the Gare neighbourhood, another confrontation occurred involving a taxi driver and three occupants of another vehicle. It was later determined that the driver of the second car had consumed alcohol. A breathalyser test came back positive, resulting in a temporary suspension of their driving licence.

Elsewhere, police in Diekirch stopped a driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs. In Esch-sur-Alzette, an individual was located after taking someone else’s vehicle – an act reportedly following a dispute with the vehicle’s owner. The suspect was found to have been drinking and had their licence confiscated.
