Vehicle checks will be taking place between 25 and 31 January to ensure drivers are ready to face the wintery conditions on the roads. "These can be wet, slippery or even icy and there is an increased accident risk."
In addition to checking for winter (or 4 season) tyres, which are compulsory in winter, police will also verify that the car's windshields have been properly cleaned and that number plates are visible.
Windshields and car windows must be clear front and back, but also on the sides. If this is not the case, drivers will incur a fee of €74.
An illegible number plate will set you back €49.
Of course, drivers must also be able to present their vehicle's identification papers, insurance and their driving license.
