The police announced they would be paying special attention to drink driving in the Carnival season due to the prevalence of consuming alcohol.

As promised, police patrols held alcohol checks over Sunday night following the Diekirch Carnival.

The alcohol checks were held between Diekirch and Fridhaff, in Erpeldange, and in Bettendorf.

Officers stopped a total of 288 motorists, of which 21 tested positive for driving under the influence.

Four of those drivers had their licenses withdrawn.
