Météolux has once again issued a yellow alert for Luxembourg. The weather service forecasts heavy rainfall for Friday afternoon.
The alert is valid across the entire country from 12 pm to 9 pm. Heavy rainfall (between 15 l/m2 and 25 l/m2) can be expected. Hail can also occur locally.
While waiting for the precipitations, the air will remain muggy, with temperatures of 23 to 25°C.
The same is true at the borders, with "numerous thunderstorms this Friday, accompanied locally by heavy rain" in France's Lorraine region. The yellow alert is maintained for the day.
In Belgium, the alert will even increase to orange this afternoon. "In the course of the afternoon and in the evening, thunderstorms are expected, more intense and more structured than in the previous days" announces the Royal Meteorological Institute.
"Heavy precipitation in a short period of time is to be feared in several places, and the threshold of 30 l/m² in 1 hour or 40 l/m² in 6 hours may be exceeded locally", the Institute warns. Beware of hailstones, which could be as large as "a few centimetres" in diameter, as well as gusts of wind. The thunderstorms will persist until the night but will then gradually become less intense.
