The letter envisions that all visits to patients in hospitals and nursing homes be reinstated. The association reports daily calls by family members who have not seen their relatives for several weeks, a situation that can weigh heavily on somebody's mental health.
The letter, directed at the government and the national association of hospitals, conveys understanding for prohibiting visits while there was still a shortage on safety equipment throughout the country. Now that stocks have been filled however, a continuation of the ban would no longer be appropriate.
Now that restaurants, bars, and businesses have been allowed to relaunch their daily operations again, it would also be the time to allow family members to visit relatives in hospitals and care homes. Naturally, adaptive measures would have to be installed to guarantee the protection of vulnerable people.
