The Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development warns against adopting or purchasing pets, namely cats and dogs, from Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine. Reports show that animals that have been imported to Luxembourg from these regions do not have the necessary antibodies to defend against rabies.

It is advised to pay special attention to documentation and origin of the animals in question. The above listed countries should be avoided as countries of origin.

The Veterinary Services Administration also wants to recommend adopting or purchasing animals within the country if possible.
