The trial for attempted murder against the woman began on Monday. The victim explained that after the attack, he spent 16 days in intensive care, two weeks in the cardiology centre and three weeks in rehabilitation.
The victim had met his former partner at a therapy centre in Useldange, and they had become a couple a while thereafter. The male victim said that, while they had arguments at times, he had never beaten her and at most shoved her once, which he reasoned did not justify attacking him with a knife.
Describing the day of the attack, the man said that he got home after work to find a bottle of spirits, suggesting that the accused female had been drinking. He thus decided to take their dog for a walk. He proceeded to visit another woman while out, but lied about this upon his return when the accused ask if he had seen another woman. This led to an argument, during which the victim says the accused threatened that she would like to literally stab him in the back.
The man says that he responded "why from behind? Come at me from the front!" - in response to which he was then stabbed in the chest. He asked the accused to call an ambulance, which she did. The victim's lawyer Pierre-Marc Knaff requested €130,000 in damages or an expert report.
Before the victim gave his testimony, the court heard and acquaintance of the accused, who said that he had been on the phone to her an hour before the attack. According to this witness, the accused had asked that he helped find the victim, her then-partner, as she was worried that he would harm the dog. The witness further said that she would stab her partner with a knife if he wasn't quickly located.
The prosecutor took issue with this, as the male witness had given a different statement to the police, in which he said that the accused wanted to stab the victim if he became aggressive. The witness said he was not under the impression that the woman was drunk, but rather that she was very upset and excited.
The trial is expected to finish soon.
