
For the second year in a row, the Grand Duchy's National Day had a somewhat different flavor. As in 2020, most of the festivities have been canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic.
The Grand Duke, Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, members of the government, deputies and many other personalities convened at the National Monument of Solidarity (Kanounenhiwwel) to commemorate the dead of the Second World War and those 818 that have lost their lives to Covid-19 thus far.
The programme of this ceremony included speeches by HRH the Grand Duke, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Fernand Etgen, and the Prime Minister and Minister of State, Xavier Bettel.
After the official ceremony, the traditional honor fire of 21 cannon shots took place at the Fetschenhaff.
