In 2021, renewables produced 993 gigawatt hours of electricity, up from 979 gigawatt hours in 2020. The increase came about even as windmill-produced electricity decreased by 10% due to unfavourable weather conditions and replacement works on infrastructure during that same period.
Electricity produced by renewables covers 15% of the country’s consumption.
The IRL also found that natural gas prices increased by a third on average in 2021. Further upticks are forecast for this and next year.
