DP Minister for Family Affairs and Integration Corinne Cahen presented the legal plans to deputies in the corresponding commission on Wednesday.
These include amendments to "meals on wheels", home care, senior clubs and general accommodation for the elderly. Regulations will be more precise in terms of what constitutes "accessible" housing, or whether TeleAlarm has to be available.
Elderly should also have more say in how their days are planned. There shouldn't be a significant difference between care homes and old people homes. New language requirements are to be introduced for staff, which calls for personnel to speak two languages fluently, one of which is Luxembourgish. For those who cannot speak Luxembourgish, this means studying the language to a B1 level upon employment.
The law will be discussed in detail at a press conference on Thursday morning. As it stands, we still await initial reactions to the presentation. In any case, the law won't come into effect six months after being voted in in the Chamber.
