The teachers' union SEW has voiced its support for an immediate, substantial, and structural increase to the minimum wage.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the union – which is part of the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) – argued that the absence of a structural minimum wage increase is worsening child poverty and educational inequalities, as the decision primarily affects families with low incomes.
The SEW noted that one in four children in Luxembourg is currently at risk of poverty, a situation that has a direct impact on students' learning, well-being, and development. For these reasons, the union said it is in favour of an immediate, substantial, and structural increase to the minimum wage.
