The idea of a so-called "Shared Space" originated in the Netherlands and has now been implemented in the Dudelange city centre.
A new road surface, a reorganisation of access streets, as well as a maximum speed limit of 20 km/h are now in place. The Avenue Grande-Duchesse Charlotte also received two sets of retractable roadblocks at its ends.
The reorganisation has been implemented in order to make the city centre more attractive and inviting for people to buy from local shops. The final phase of the construction site will begin in Spring 2021. The church front will be restored, while the adjacent square will be reshaped.
This third phase of the project will cost around €4.7 million. The total costs are estimated at €16 million.
