AfghanistanSix people with ties to Luxembourg reach Kabul airport

RTL Today
Government officials confirmed the news on Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

On Monday evening, the first person managed to get into the airport and is now set to be evacuated to Abu Dhabi. From there, they will return to the EU as soon as possible.

On Tuesday morning, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn then announced that the family of five people also managed to enter Kabul airport. They received help from the Belgian military and are now in safety.

At the moment, two to three other people with ties to the Grand Duchy remain stuck in the Afghan capital (discussions are being held in regard to the number of Luxembourgers involved, based on residency, nationality, and relation of those concerned). The Luxembourg government will continue doing everything in its power to bring said individuals back. Two more security forces will therefore be deployed to help on the ground at Kabul airport.

The A400M military plane is currently on its way back to Melsbroek in Belgium, carrying a total of 93 Europeans aboard.
