MPs Laurent Mosar and Marc Spautz from the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) submitted the question to Minister of Finance Yuriko Backes after the Luxembourg Association of Bank and Insurance Employees (Aleba) accused Spuerkeess of helping Fortuna Bank clients but not employees.

In her response, Backes stresses that the government does not intervene in the commercial activities of Spuerkess (the state is the bank’s sole shareholder). According to Backes, Spuerkess has informed the Ministry of Finance that solutions for staff members are being prepared, but by Fortuna Bank itself.

Spuerkess makes “commercial offers” to Fortuna Bank clients, which the latter may accept or decline.

Fortuna Bank has decided to phase out its operations in the Grand Duchy. At the moment, the bank still employs about 30 workers.
