"We should not taboo suicide because it is a reality also in Luxembourg," DP bloc leader Gilles Baum told the press this Monday morning. Baum succeeded Eugène Berger after the latter passed away at the age of 59 in January. The DP demanded that MPs address the issue of suicide during the next parliamentary year.
The party also discussed the role of remote working, which has started to play an unprecedented role for many employers and employees due to the pandemic. According to the DP, remote working schemes were a success and should be extended further. Baum reiterated that he remains in favour of introducing one day of remote working per day for cross-border workers.
Minister for Finance Pierre Gramegna meanwhile explained that it remains unclear if and when this measure could be implemented. He cited the current conventions with neighbouring countries, which do not yet foresee the implementation of such a law. He also showed himself less enthusiastic about remote working than his colleague Gilles Baum. According to Gramegna, it is still too early to draw definite conclusions. He explained that remote working can, for instance, negatively impact social contact and make negotiations more difficult.
