Chief among the most densely populated areas is the capital, followed by Esch-sur-Alzette. In the last census, Luxembourg City counted 109,200 inhabitants, with the Esch population numbering 35,400.
The municipalities of Differdange, Dudelange and Pétange follow suit, indicating a demographic concentration in the southern parts of the country. Differdange counts more than 26,800 inhabitants, with 21,100 residing in Dudelange. The population of Pétange numbers just over 19,200 residents.
In order to find a municipality from the west of the country, one must look to the 11th spot on the list: Mamer counted around 9,700 residents at the start of 2019. The most densely populated northern municipality on the list is Mersch, with 9,600 inhabitants.
