PollutionThousands of litres of milk spill into Alzette tributary near Essingen

RTL Today
The Rouschtbach, a tributary of the Alzette in Essingen, was almost completely white on Tuesday. A forester reported the anomaly to the police in Mersch.

The Water Management Authority visited the site to investigate the origin of the pollution. According to preliminary results, thousands of litres of milk from a nearby processing plant spilled into the river.

The investigation will now have to determine why the lid of the retention basin did not work. The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) was also on site.

Due to its high protein and fat content, milk is extremely harmful to water. It is thus expected that the incident will cause significant damage to the Rouschtbach.
