The court, a symbol of Luxembourgish heritage built around 1900, had been condemned to demolition just a couple of years ago. Now, however, the building is to be restored, revitalised.

The city of Esch-sur-Alzette has taken on the mantle of "European Capital of Culture 2022", a development which has provoked a change of plans - literally. And as such, the renovation wrks of the last agricultural heritage site in Differdange could cost up to three million Euro.

Only a couple of years previously the building had been doomed to be torn down so as to make space for new apartments.

Instead, "Lommelshaff" is on the way to becoming a new communal spot for all ages, a space for societies, artists, theatre and music, and even an educational permaculture garden.

For those who are interested: the community of Differdange is still on the lookout for projects to include in the 2022 exhibition.
