The incident took place at 4.30pm on Rue Nic Biever in Dudelange.
The victim received a hit of pepper spray to the face, while the attackers threatened him with a bat. When he attempted to flee, the older boys held him back, but he freed himself and escaped on foot. The muggers stole the victim's electric scooter, which he left behind in his haste.
At around 5pm the police located the three suspects on Rue Dominique Lang, where they attempted to apprehend them. The suspects fought back and behaved aggressively, at which point further police back-up was deployed. All three were taken to the police station. Their weapons were not found.
Two of the three attackers were moved to Schrassig by order of the prosecutor, while the third, who was a minor, was taken to the Dreiborn youth facility.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, but discharged the same day.
