As was explained to business owners at a meeting on Thursday, the company will cover 50% of the losses recorded during the tram construction period.
The president of Luxtram specified that local traders can apply for financial compensation once a year. In other words, if local business owners noted a loss in 2019, they can send their balance sheet to a chartered accountant. They are then, in theory, reimbursed in five to six weeks.
Traders acknowledged that the compensation provided financial relief but nevertheless stressed that it was not enough. Some businesses lost 40 to 80% of their usual turnover, LSAP MP Gabriel Boisante said.

He also hoped the whole process would not lead to bankruptcy before the construction had even finished - a dramatic, yet probable end. The traders therefore asked that more work teams be employed in order to allow the tram works to progress more quickly. They did however also not that they were delighted by the presence of workers during collective holidays.
