To meet the demands of a rapidly transforming labour market, the Ministry of Education will introduce two new vocational training programmes from the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Ministry of Education is continuing to adapt its educational offerings to meet the needs of a changing society and a rapidly transforming labour market.

The objective is to provide young people with better-targeted pathways and genuine career prospects. At the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, two new training courses will be added to vocational education.

The first course, a Vocational Aptitude Diploma (DAP) for Security and Safety Agents, will be offered at the Lycée des arts et métiers in Luxembourg City. This three-year programme, taught in German, takes place full-time at the secondary school and includes three compulsory work placements in a company. It prepares students for an essential profession: protecting people and property, monitoring premises, controlling access, preventing risks, and intervening in the event of an incident. Security guards must learn to identify sensitive situations, reassure the public, and ensure strict compliance with instructions.

The second new addition concerns the industrial sector. The Lycée du Nord in Wiltz and the Lycée privé Émile Metz in Luxembourg City will introduce a Vocational Capacity Certificate (CCP) for Assistants in the Metal Trades. This three-year programme, taught in German and French, alternates between two days per week at school and three days per week in a company under an apprenticeship contract.

It enables students to acquire the basics of metalworking: cutting, preparing parts from sketches or plans, deburring, degreasing, protecting areas, drilling, and brazing. Students also learn to assist professionals during pre-assembly in the workshop and final assembly at the client's premises, as well as to assist with logistics, load transport, and securing work areas.

These two courses are in addition to the launch of seven new "Première-DAP" training programmes starting in the 2026/2027 academic year. These programmes will allow secondary school graduates – or holders of a Technician's Diploma (or equivalent) – to complete a one-year vocational training course leading to a Vocational Aptitude Diploma.
