After trade unions criticised the UEL's behaviour as employer representatives, the UEL (Union of Luxembourgish Enterprises) has clarified that they thought Minister of Labour and Employment Dan Kersch should be the one to approach both parties. However, this would no longer be happening in one session involving the minister, the employers, and unions. Instead, it would take place in bilateral discussions whereupon the Minister, according to the UEL, would then be responsible for making any political decisions.
UEL President Nicolas Buck sees this as a more efficient way of working that would also avoid over-politicising the matter. It seems that employers' representatives are actually withdrawing from the Standing Committee on Labour and Employment, proposing that this kind of social dialogue should be taking place more in companies themselves.
The government will be meeting the UEL on this matter on Tuesday at 2 pm.
