This is not the first time the ULC has criticised the situation, as the average pension of under €3,000 does not cover the cost of care for the elderly. Patients are often required to shell out for the balance, and extra costs each month such as washing, telephone or grooming frequently come out of the patient's own pocket.
The Ministry of Family Affairs explained that public and private nursing and care homes should establish their tariffs.
The minister responsible, Corinne Cahen, told the ULC that the government was working on a comparison portal in the near future, where all tariffs and extra costs could be calculated.
The ULC reminded the Ministry of Family Affairs of her promises in a press release, and asked when the portal would be put online, as well as requesting details of what exactly could be compared with the help of the service and how it could benefit consumers.
