The number of people seeking employment currently stands at 17,875 residents, which represents a drop of 650 people (-3.5%) from August 2020. Compared to April's figures, there are now 2,378 fewer unemployed people (-11.7%).
Obviously, compared to the unemployment rate that the country had in September 2019, the increase remains significant (+21.7%). This figure is strongly influenced by the coronavirus crisis, which has forced many companies to resort to partial unemployment and others to lay off part of their staff.
The unemployment rate calculated by the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Statec) is therefore 6.3%. This is a significant drop, considering that the rate was 7.0% in April.
