
This figure has consequently risen by 406 individuals - or 2.7% - over the past year. The unemployment rate as calculated by Statec currently lies at 5.5% and includes corrections accounting for seasonal variations.
The figure of non-resident job seekers has seen a downward shift of 7.9% compared to July 2018, representing 2,457 individuals registered as of 31 July 2019.
As for the demographic breakdown amongst job seekers, it appears to be rather balanced between men and women at a respective 7,842 and 7,826. Age-wise, over-45s represent the largest demographic (6,873), followed by those between the ages of 30 and 44 (5,872) and finally, young people under the age of 30 (2,953).
Throughout July, the National Employment Agency opened 2,605 new files for resident job seekers, marking a 15.1% increase over one year, and 473 new files for non-resident job seekers, which in turn marks a 124% increase. However, these were accompanied by an increase in completed files. The changes in opening and completing files is notably attributed to the new inscription procedure, which is far easier than the previous system. The procedure was introduced at the end of 2018.
Finally, 4,044 individuals are currently taking part in employability measures. Compared to July 2018, this figure has fallen by 3% or 127 individuals.
