Vaccinations in care homes"Unprofessional" that care homes do not know which personnel have been vaccinated: Professor Claude Muller

RTL Today
Professor Claude Muller from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) is not impressed with the way senior and care homes are handling the data collection of patients testing positive for coronavirus, as well as numbers relating to vaccinations.

The fact that these homes do not know which of their personnel have been vaccinated is totally unprofessional, Professor Muller laments. There are currently several infection clusters around the country.

"These homes need to establish an overview of several things: who was vaccinated when, at what point did symptoms arise, how did the illness develop, when were they tested and with what result", says Professor Muller. Knowing when and how a positive case developed following a vaccination is of great importance to science, according to the virologist. For the structures themselves, however, the analysis can pave the way for increased interactions between patients and visitors.

Currently, vaccinated personnel are mingling with staff still awaiting the jab. Care could be made safe if these tasks were more clearly divided and better structured.

There is no reason for homes to halt the vaccination campaign as soon as a positive case arises. "It's incomprehensible", underlines Professor Muller. An estimated 60% at Servior homes and 2/3 of the health sector were a "catastrophic" figure, Professor Muller concludes.
