The car caught fire around 30 minutes after an accident involving three vehicles had already severely impacted traffic flow on the motorway towards Luxembourg City.
The incident took place near Flaxweiler and triggered nearly 7km of tailbacks.
An RTL cameraman was at the scene and captured footage of the incident.
