In cases where officers of the law have to make seizures from private citizens to cover unpaid bills, they occasionally have to put up a clearly visible enforcement label if the owner is not home. A label which is of course an uncomfortable affair for the person involved, since it announces that during the next visit, the door will be broken in if nobody is home.

This practice was questioned by MP Guy Arendt in a parliamentary enquiry. Minister Tanson confirms in her response that enforcers use this method as a last resort if the people in question repeatedly fail to respond to their official requests. She also underlines that enforcers only intervene once a court ruling has been announced in a case. She finally argues that the practice is designed as an incentive for people to avoid a confrontation with the police.
