CSVWe need to close financial loopholes once and for all: Gilles Roth

RTL Today
The MP was a guest at RTL Radio on Monday morning.

Roth was firm in his stance on the proposed tax reforms by party president Frank Engel: "We are not leftists, we are a central party of the people." He elaborated on his position by noting that the government should not interfere with private inheritances and that wealthy families would always find ways to evade taxes.

He further stated that his party would also disagree with the abolishing of the bank secrecy laws for Luxembourgish residents, as proposed by LSAP.

Roth emphasised that even though his position would be different from Engel's, the party still encouraged the promotion of new ideas. However, the democratic process still needed to be applied before the party could present new policies and positions to the public.

The MP went on to convey that CSV was set on reforming the taxation of investment funds, even though the current regulations were introduced by the party's former Minister of Finance Luc Frieden. "The corona crisis has made it clear that we need to close all financial loopholes once and for all", Roth stated.

In the end, Roth agreed with Engel on one particular issue: Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna (DP) has increased the national debt too much.
