On Sunday night, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced new measures against coronavirus. After the closures of schools, from Monday onwards all cafés, restaurants and non-essential businesses will have to close their doors.

The Fédération des Artisans sought to provide more clarity on the situation following Sunday's press conference.

All activities with clients where the recommended distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained, are to cease with immediate effect.

This list includes hairdressers, cosmeticians, driving schools, tattoo parlours, catering, exhibitions, showrooms and consumer fairs.

However, work on construction sites, workshops, breakdown work, production work, home services, interventions with public, professional and private customers and administrative work within companies may continue subject to compliance with health recommendations and to limit interaction with customers to a minimum.

Businesses within the health sector, such as pharmacies and opticians, are not subject to the restrictions. Equally, supermarkets, launderettes, petrol stations and grocery stores will remain open.
