Generally, there are two theories. Some people believe that the summer is the best time to conceive, given the sun, the holiday spirit, and warm nights all contribute to love spreading in the air. Others, however, think that more people tend to prefer the winter - it's cold and you need to stay close for warmth.
Well, Eurostat has gone and well truly quashed both of those theories for Luxembourg. As it happens, the preferred time to conceive is in autumn.
Figures on births in the Grand Duchy in 2017 reveal that there were 1,495 births in the winter, 1,558 in the spring, 1,616 in the summer, and 1,505 in the autumn. In total, the country saw 6,174 births in 2017.
There are two takeaways from these figures. First of all, most babies were born in the summer (take some time to spare a moment for the poor women having to go through late pregnancy in high temperatures), whereas the fewest births occurred in winter. Here, Luxembourg shares the tendency with the rest of the European Union, which saw 1.3 million babies born over the course of June, July, and August of 2017.

The second takeaway is that autumn happens to be the season when most couples tend to conceive babies in Luxembourg, contrasted with spring. As for the cause of this rather light preference towards autumn, we haven't got any explanations. If you have a theory, let us know!
