On the occasion of the Global Day for Climate Action, Youth for Climate announced a protest for Friday afternoon. The demonstration will, however, only gather a limited number of activists "in order to respect the sanitary measures".
"We are not calling for a mass mobilisation," the collective wrote in a statement. Activists from Votumklima and United for Climate Justice have been invited, however.
Natasha Lepage, a representative of Youth for Climate, insisted that "everything will be done to respect the restrictions" linked to the coronavirus pandemic.
She also confirmed that around thirty demonstrators were expected to march through the streets of the capital to Place d'Armes at around 4 pm. Once there, a human chain "and possibly a sit-in" will be organised.
Contacted on Thursday afternoon, the young woman assured our colleagues from RTL 5 Minutes that an authorisation had been requested from the municipality of Luxembourg City and said she hoped "that it would arrive before the scheduled time of the demonstration".
It should be remembered that almost two years ago, thousands of people took to the streets of the Luxembourg capital to express their discontent with the Grand Duchy's environmental policy.
