The biodiversity conference, which has been underway for a week, brings together government representatives to review the state of biodiversity worldwide and track progress on protecting natural habitats and marine areas.
Environment Minister Serge Wilmes is attending on Monday and Tuesday.
Four years ago, the international community adopted a global biodiversity agreement with 23 targets to be reached by 2030. They include protecting 30% of the world’s land and marine areas, and ensuring that wealthier, industrialised countries give financial support to help poorer nations meet conservation goals. Progress towards the targets has so far been slow.
The United States and the Vatican are the only countries that have not signed the convention.
