There's a certain somberness to The Clockworks' second full-length album, The Entertainment, that seems to capture the spirit of the mid-2020s. Released on 27 March, 2026, it's a record chock-full of catchy hooks buried in droning deep basslines and reverb-heavy riffs.
It's a new direction for the Galway quartet, whose first releases channeled post-punk angst into instantly memorable tunes like The Future is Not What It Was, and Enough is Never Enough.
In fact, The Clockworks perfectly encapsulate this latest wave coming from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Parallel to acts like Deadletter and Fontaines D.C. (who are coming to Luxembourg next summer), their sound fits neatly into the soundscape of the post-punk revival and its latest developments.
As member Sean Connelly told RTL Today Radio's Stephen Steps Lowe in 2024, the band ended up getting signed by the legendary executive Alan McGee – cementing them as ones to look out for.
“Moving to London and getting signed by Alan McGee, moved us to the 2nd Division, as opposed to Sunday League, our eyes are on the Premier League"
"We took everything at face value... nothing was real until it was real - you have to manage your expectations"
The ruggedness of their debut album, 2023's Exit Strategy, has slowly morphed into something more deliberate, more calculated to capture the energy of the mid-2020s.
At times frenetic, at times slow-burn, The Clockworks' second LP, elicits feelings of heaviness and hope in equal measure, railing against a status quo that seems to only benefit the very few.
If you would like to be part of this new wave of rock music, RTL Today might just have you sorted, because as luck would have it, we have two tickets to give away for their upcoming concert.
