
BETTEL HECKLED – Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel was heckled at the NEXUS tech summit on Wednesday over the inclusion of Israeli start-ups. Bettel defended the decision, saying the companies were not defence firms, and dismissed the activist's protest. He compared a blanket boycott of Israelis to the persecution of Jewish people during the Second World War.
ARCHIVE MOVE – Luxembourg's National Archive has begun its long-awaited move to a new facility in Belval, after decades of delays. Three lorries a day are now transporting the collection of around 50km of documents from the old St-Esprit Plateau building. The new reading room opens on 24 June.
FRANCE NUCLEAR WASTE – France is holding a public inquiry into plans to build a vast underground nuclear waste facility in the Meuse region, near the Luxembourg border. The Cigéo project would store 83,000 cubic metres of radioactive waste at a depth of 500 metres. Luxembourg is the only neighbouring country to have formally requested to be kept informed about the process.
APPLE LUX KEYBOARD – Apple has announced Luxembourgish keyboard support for iPhones and iPads, coming later this year with iOS 27. Until now, users have had to rely on third-party apps for Luxembourgish typing. The new keyboard features a QWERTZ layout with dedicated keys for characters including é, ë and ä.
IRAN WAR – President Trump has claimed the United States has ended its conflict with Iran, announcing what he called a great settlement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz. But Tehran says no final agreement has been reached, calling reports of a deal speculation. Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend a signing ceremony in Europe in the coming days
UK RESIGNATION – British Defence Secretary John Healey sensationally quit yesterday, accusing beleaguered Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the finance ministry of failing to commit enough money to protect the country.
SPACEX IPO – SpaceX has begun trading on the Nasdaq in what is the biggest stock market debut in history. The company priced shares at $135 each, giving it a valuation of nearly $1.8 trillion,and is expected to make Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire.
EL NINO – The US weather agency has confirmed the arrival of El Niño, warning the climate pattern, linked to droughts, floods and extreme temperatures, could intensify to historic strength by the end of the year. Scientists fear it will worsen the effects of climate change already driven by fossil fuel emissions.
FOOTBALL – Mexico have kicked off the World Cup with a 2-0 win over South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Julian Quinones opened the scoring in the 9th minute, before Raul Jimenez sealed it in the 67th. Elsewhere, South Korea beat Czechia 2-1. The competition continues today, with co-hosts Canada facing Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, and the United States taking on Paraguay in Los Angeles.

FORMULA 1 – Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli says his rise to the top of Formula One feels "crazy". The 19-year-old heads to this weekend's Catalunya Grand Prix looking to win a sixth consecutive race. Antonelli leads the championship by 66 points from Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton.
