Grand Duke Guillaume and Grande Duchesse Stéphanie will begin a nationwide tour later this month, starting in Esch-sur-Alzette. The couple will travel by train to Belval and take part in events and exhibitions in the area. The visit on 24 April marks the first of five nationwide appearances. The tour has become a tradition going back decades, with Grand Duke Jean in 1964 and Grand Duke Henri in 2000 making similar visits.

Eleven new high schools are to be built to cater for an estimated 17,500 additional students by 2050. Minister of Education and Spatial Planning Claude Meisch outlined the plan to a parliamentary committee on Tuesday. The precise locations of the eleven new high schools have yet to be finalised. Over the past six years, Luxembourg’s high schools have absorbed an average of 1,100 additional students per year, the equivalent of a medium-sized school every twelve months.

A large cannabis plantation at a house in northern Luxembourg has been dismantled. The Grand Ducal Police initiated an investigation in March after the property owner reported suspicions about his tenants. In total, 1,746 cannabis plants and a notable amount of cultivation equipment were discovered. Two men, who were residing illegally in Luxembourg, were living in the house to manage the plantation. The men were arrested and appeared before an examining magistrate in Diekirch the following day.

Italian prosecutors have placed under formal investigation the owners of the Swiss bar where a New Year’s Eve fire left 41 dead, Italian media have reported. Six Italians were among the victims of the Le Constellation fire in Crans-Montana, which also injured 115 people. Jacques Moretti and his wife Jessica are suspected of “disaster caused by negligence, multiple involuntary manslaughter, arson and causing very serious injuries, aggravated by violations of accident prevention regulations,” the reports said.

US President Donald Trump has told the New York Post that a second round of Iran talks could happen in Pakistan “over the next two days,” after a first round ended at the weekend without a deal. In a phone interview with a Post reporter in Islamabad, Trump initially said that talks were unlikely to return to Pakistan, before calling the reporter back minutes later to say it was “more likely” they would go back to Islamabad because the country’s army chief Asim Munir “is doing a great job.”

Indonesia, fresh off concluding a defence pact with Washington and an oil deal with Russia, has also agreed to boost defence industry cooperation with France, Jakarta said today after the countries’ presidents met in Paris. President Prabowo Subianto was hosted by counterpart Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace Tuesday, where they “discussed strengthening strategic cooperation,” a statement from the government said. “This includes the procurement of defence equipment and the strengthening of the defence industry,” it said, citing France as a strategic partner for Indonesia in Europe.

FOOTBALL Paris Saint–Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 last night to reach Champions League semi-finals. Ibrahima Konate claimed that the decision to deny Liverpool a penalty was the defining moment in their Champions League exit. Arne Slot’s side were awarded a penalty in the second-half of the quarter-final second-leg at Anfield when Alexis Mac Allister tumbled under pressure from Willian Pacho.

Lauren Hemp fired England to a 1-0 win over Spain yesterday as the Lionesses moved closer to qualifying for the Women’s World Cup. Hemp’s goal early in the first half at Wembley sealed England’s third successive victory, moving them above holders Spain to the top of group A3. It was the first time the teams had faced each other since the Lionesses’ penalty shoot-out victory in last year’s European Championship final.

A top US lawmaker called on FIFA to pay for World Cup public transportation costs following a report that local authorities in New Jersey are planning massive price hikes during the tournament. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, said on X that football’s world governing body - which stands to earn $11 billion from the tournament - should foot the bill for transport costs to World Cup venues.
