Two people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the killing of a 29-year-old student who was found dead in her apartment on Trier’s Nordallee nearly two weeks ago. According to the Trierischer Volksfreund, the suspects are a man and a woman.
The 35-year-old man was reportedly arrested in Völklingen, Saarland, on Thursday morning and is suspected of stabbing the student to death for financial gain.
Trier police confirmed to the newspaper that two arrests had been made, including one in Völklingen, but authorities have not yet issued an official statement. Further information is expected later in the day.
The student was found dead after her mother reported her missing. Her mother had last heard from her on Friday, 17 July, and police discovered her body in the apartment two days later.
An autopsy subsequently confirmed that she had not died of natural causes.
Police had previously released few details because they were still searching for suspects and wanted to prevent information known only to the perpetrator from becoming public.
The killing came just days after Trier student Marius D was fatally stabbed in the street near the university, in what appears to be an unrelated case.
