The single arrived at midnight on Friday, September 11th, following almost two years of work and several different versions along the way.
For Maunet, though, the release is also part of something bigger. After several years establishing herself on Luxembourg's music scene, she says the time has come to properly go for it.
Maunet traces the beginning of her musical life in Luxembourg back to around 2018. Since then, she has played regularly, collaborated with other artists and built a network around her music.
"Luxembourg has been super good to me when it comes to the music industry," she told the Sam Steen Show. "I've had so many opportunities to just do new things and really dive into it and meet cool people."
She's currently working independently, without a label behind her, but says encouragement from the people she has met both in Luxembourg and further afield has helped give her the confidence to make music her priority.
"Nothing is more important to me than music," she said. "Now is the time to really not be afraid of doing bigger opportunities."
It's an attitude that has been building for a while. Music has long been an important form of expression for Maunet, who grew up with a stutter and discovered early on that singing gave her a freedom of communication she didn't always have when speaking.
That experience helped form a connection with music that has continued into her songwriting, where confidence, growing up and the relationships around her have all found their way into her work.
Your Language began life back in March 2024, when Maunet started working online with Paris-based producer Shino.
The song originally sounded very different.
"It was more of like a poppy sound, but knowing me and my heart, I know that I want to go towards R&B," she explained.
They returned to the track several times, including another major reworking in 2025, before finally arriving at the version released this week.
"It's much more me," Maunet said. "I love pop. I grew up with pop, but I want to be an R&B person sprinkled with pop rather than the opposite."
"R&B just goes better with my heart and my sound and my mind."
That distinction is immediately noticeable on Your Language. There's a definite nod to the warmth and bounce of 1990s R&B, but Maunet isn't simply trying to recreate an older sound.
Instead, she describes the finished track as "bouncy and joyful", as well as playful and flirtatious.
One of the defining features of the new single is its layered vocal harmonies, something Maunet traces back to studying gospel choir and gospel ensemble at university.
"That's where you learn a lot about three-part harmony," she explained. "The teachers that I had in those classes were just amazing and taught me so much about how to build harmonies."
Those lessons fed directly into Your Language, while Shino was given room to have some fun with the production too. By the end of the track, a horn section joins the mix and pushes things in an even bigger direction.
"It's warm, but it's flirtatious," Maunet said. "And it's just very Maya Maunet."
Your Language is the third single in Maunet's current run of releases, following Threaten Me With A Good Time and Right Here.
For now, the plan isn't to immediately package everything into an EP. Instead, Maunet wants to keep releasing music and establish exactly what a Maya Maunet record sounds like.
"I am going to bombard you with more music," she joked.
"I have the EP vision in mind. I would obviously love to go there in that direction. But that's probably more for a next year thing."
For the rest of 2026, the focus is on singles, building that sound and giving listeners a reason to come back for the next release.
There may even be another Christmas song before the year is out, following her previous festive collaboration with Joel Marques, although Maunet admitted on air that particular plan isn't quite finished yet.
Listeners in Luxembourg don't necessarily have to wait for the next release to hear her.
Maunet performs regularly on Thursday evenings at Shinzo in Luxembourg City and she can also be found across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube under Maya Maunet.
With Your Language now out, the aim is simple: more songs, more shows and a much bigger push from an artist who feels she's finally settled on the direction she wants to take.
