
FRANCE WFH – France is pushing for changes to EU legislation on remote work to provide greater legal certainty for cross-border workers, particularly those employed in Luxembourg, who are currently capped, for tax purposes at 34 days of home-working per year.
MEDICAL PAY – Doctors and dentists in Luxembourg will not receive a pay increase for 2025 or 2026, following a decision by the High Council for Social Security to not revalue the so-called ‘lettre-cle’. The AMMD had been pushing for a 2.68% increase, the maximum permitted by law, while The Ministry of Health and Social Security, had signalled its willingness to open negotiations based on a more modest rise of 1.34%.

PEACE COUNCIL – Donald Trump’s new Peace Council has held its first meeting in Washington. Beyond financial promises to rebuild the Gaza Strip, 27 nations agreed to deploy up to 20,000 troops to stabilise Gaza. A reconstruction plan was also presented. Billionaire investor Marc Rowan, who is also a member of the Peace Council unveiled a 30-billion-dollar plan to build 100,000 homes in Rafah.
US IRAN – President Trump has given Iran a deadline of 10-15 days to abandon its nuclear and missile programmes, warning of serious consequences if Tehran refuses. US media report that military strike options are already being prepared.
UK ROYAL ARREST – Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew has been released from police questioning in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. He was detained at his home yesterday morning on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, but was freed yesterday evening under undisclosed conditions.
AUSTRIA TRIAL – An Austrian man has been given a suspended five-month prison sentence after leaving his girlfriend to die of exposure on the Grossglockner mountain last January. The case has sparked wide debate in mountaineering circles about responsibility during alpine tours.
NORTH KOREA CONGRESS – North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party has opened its congress in Pyongyang, a rare event held just once every five years. Leader Kim Jong Un is expected to set out military and foreign policy priorities, with details on the country’s nuclear programme closely watched.
ERIC DANE – Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as a plastic surgeon in the medical series “Grey’s Anatomy” has died at age 53. Last year, Dane announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, the neurological disorder also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
WINTER OLYMPICS – Olympics updates, the United States claimed gold in women’s ice hockey last night, beating Canada 2-1. American figure skater Alysa Liu also took gold, finishing ahead of the two Japanese skaters Kaori Sakamoto and Ami Nakai. Norway continues to lead the overall medal table with 16 golds from 34 medals in total.
FOOTBALL – In last night’s Europa League playoffs, Stuttgart thrashed Celtic 4-1, Ghent won 3-1 in Zagreb, and Lille fell 1-0 at home to Belgrade. Tonight, the Bundesliga resumes with Mainz hosting Hamburg, while in France, Brest take on Marseille.
