One of the most acclaimed young bands to emerge from the American indie scene in recent years is heading to Luxembourg.

Horsegirl play Rotondes on Monday, August 17th as part of this year's Congés Annulés, and RTL Today Radio has tickets to give away.

The Chicago-formed trio of Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein and Gigi Reece have been friends since their teenage years, turning a shared obsession with alternative music into a band that has rapidly earned an international following.

Formed in 2019, Horsegirl first attracted attention with a string of self-released tracks before signing to legendary independent label Matador Records in 2021. Their debut album, Versions of Modern Performance, followed in 2022, introducing their distinctive mix of noisy guitars, indie rock and experimental pop to a much wider audience.

Phonetics On and On

Horsegirl returned in 2025 with their second album, Phonetics On and On, produced by Welsh musician and producer Cate Le Bon.

Featuring tracks including 2468, Julie, Switch Over and Frontrunner, the record strips things back while pushing the band's songwriting into new territory, exploring the space between pop, minimalism and playful experimentation.

At the heart of it all remains the friendship between Cheng, Lowenstein and Reece. Their songs capture snapshots of youth and girlhood without losing the strange, spontaneous quality that made Horsegirl stand out in the first place.

The album went on to receive widespread critical acclaim, with The New York Times music critic Lindsay Zoladz including Phonetics On and On among her best albums of 2025.

Now the trio bring those songs to Luxembourg for what promises to be another excellent night in this summer's Congés Annulés programme.
