Both cup finals took place on Saturday. Basket Esch secured the first cup win in the club’s history after beating Arantia Larochette 84:65. Esch was able to build an eight-point advance as early as the first quarter, which they later increased to thirteen points by half-time.
The Larochette team were at their best in the third quarter of the game. Nevertheless, Esch remained attentive and managed to defend their lead. In the end, they finished off their opponents in the final quarter and were deservedly victorious. Clancy Rugg was top scorer with 27 points.
The women’s cup final was much more contested. It took Résidence Walfer until the second quarter to build up a nine-point lead. T71 Dudelange struggled to fight back after that and failed to score as many points as their opponents in the third quarter.
However, in the final quarter of the game, Dudelange decreased Walfer’s lead to six points, thanks to the efforts of Nadia Mossong and Mandy Geniets in particular. Nevertheless, Walfer retained their lead until the end and beat Dudelange 64:58, thus securing a first title for the club in a very long time.
