Earlier, the Luxembourg table tennis duo beat Serbian doubles Lupulesku/Vignjevic 3:1 to make it through to the quarter-finals.
They will now face Romanian pair Elizabeta Samara and Andreea Dragoman on Thursday afternoon for their chance to compete in the final.
In the women’s singles, Ni Xia Lian beat Bulgaria’s Polina Trifonova 4:1 in the 1/32 finals. Luxembourg’s Tessy Gonderinger also featured, losing 1:4 to Italy’s Giorgia Piccolin. Sarah de Nutte will play England’s Ho Tin-tin on Wednesday afternoon for her chance to progress to the next stage.
